SCAN

Prepare Work Efficiently

Establish a strong foundation for your campaign. Scope and plan your CUI screening activities from Subtera’s STAR cloud dashboard, ensuring all relevant information is captured at the start of the process – a critical step in any RBA or RBI-led programme.

Using our novel STAR system, engineers prepare workflows, capturing key asset data at the outset. Details including asset ID, process temperature, and fabric type are uploaded from the STAR cloud dashboard into the ‘RealWear Navigator ® Z1 with Thermal Camera’, which is an ATEX Zone 1 certified hard-hat worn display device.

Maximise Productivity

Weighing 1.9kg and crafted for handheld operation, the STAR sensor, named Pi360, efficiently screens live operational pipework and process vessels, while insulation and polymeric cladding remain undisturbed – supporting non-intrusive inspection as recommended in risk-based approaches.

During the screening process Pi360 captures a range of data using integrated onboard inertial sensors. These sensor measurements monitor the speed, direction, and scan angle during the process, helping to ensure the activity is being conducted correctly.

TRACK

Reduced Overheads

STAR sensor can be operated by a single user. While a live operational asset is being screened, the workflow software guides the user to conduct the process correctly. Upon completion of each scan, an instant data check is automatically performed, to ensure the data has been both captured and saved properly.

While operating the device, users can record voice notes and observations relating to the activity. All sensor data is transmitted wirelessly to the display device; which is equipped with the latest speech recognition technology, enabling users to control the screening process using voice commands.

STAR SCAN – TECHNOLOGY

Fusing advanced sensors

STAR sensors fuse a range of advanced measurement capabilities to enable handheld, non-intrusive detection of corrosion under insulation (CUI), and liquid moisture, on live operational pipework and process vessels – without removing the outer polymeric cladding layer. Embedded sensors include:

  • Terahertz – measures terahertz light from deep beneath the cladding

  • Thermal – measures the temperature of the cladding surface

  • Inertial – monitors relative system position and orientation

Continuous Calibration

Subtera’s sensors are equipped with internal calibration technology. Momentarily before and after scanning an asset, a rapid calibration is automatically initiated, to ensure that the system is optimised for each and every scan.

Long-life Battery

STAR sensors utilise a low power design, and benefit from the latest industrial Li-ion battery technology, enabling continuous screening activities of up to 4

Efficient Scanning

STAR sensors ergonomically align the device with the curvature of the asset being screened. This low friction arc design also enables smooth movements along the surface of the live operational asset being screened, and ensures that the required sensor-to-asset distance is maintained.

STAR’s workflow software calculates the specific scan angles required, to achieve the level of coverage determined, within a risk based inspection plan.

STAR TRACK – TECHNOLOGY

Handsfree Voice Control

STAR workflow software guides the user through the screening process, ensuring that scans are conducted optimally, and in the correct order. Benefiting from voice input controls, with STAR the user can always keep their PPE gloves on, and have a free hand available to further enhance safety.

The STAR display device is pre-configured with Microsoft® Teams, so where cellular or wi-fi connectivity is available, users can share live output, with remote team members.

Ensuring Data Quality

During data capture, the STAR system continuously monitors the sensors relative scan speed and orientation. In the event that a scan is conducted too quickly, or at the wrong angle, the workflow software will inform the operator, and instruct that the activity is repeated before the data can be saved.

STAR’s workflow software carefully guides the operator to ensure that all activities are conducted in the correct order and in an optimal manner – ensuring successful data capture to ensure dependable outputs.
