OSI STAR System Onshore Case Study
Passive Terahertz detection, Using STAR system on corroded plate with a single Stainless Steel banding strap present Insulation 25mm Armaflex
Passive Terahertz detection of CUI using STAR system 6" Carbon steel pipe Insulated length 1200mm Insulation 50mm Armaflex Cladding 2mm Ulvashield temperature range of pipe 35 - 44 Degrees centigrade
To demonstrate a comparative data output from both techniques a 6” carbon steel pipe was scanned. This section of pipe was produced by ESRTechnologies, 4 x corrosion scabs were artificially grown to simulated corrosion under insulation. Each corroded area measures 50mm diameter, with acorrosion height of 6mm. The pipe section was insulated with 50mm of HT Armaflex and clad with Armachek.
Technology & Data Output Comparison

Insulated Pipe

4 x Corrosion Scabs On Pipe
Passive Terahertz detection clearly showing the 4 areas of corrosion under insulation (Left side was colder, hence, signal is not as intense.)

Passive magnetic detection, left data was captured through the insulation, right data was captured with the insulation removed. Both maps can be calibrated with sample ultrasonic thickness measurements to establish remaining wall thickness below the corrosion product.
