How It Works 

  • Corrosion and defects alter the magnetic properties of ferromagnetic materials (e.g. Pipework, Structural steel members), which leads to perturbations in the surrounding magnetic field.

  • The iCAMM scanner detects these perturbations using .specialized magnetic sensors​

  • The method is non-contact and entirely passive, and can detect defects under cover (e.g., concrete, paint, coatings, insulation, etc.).

  • The equipment consists of a simple handheld scanner and datalogger, with a normal scanning speed of 2 metre/minute

iCAMM Technical Specifications 

iCAMMTM (Infrastructure Condition Assessment Magnetic Method) is a small and portable nondestructive testing (NDT) device, consisting of a handheld scanner and data logger that is used to passively detect and record the perturbations in the earth’s magnetic field caused by corrosion and defects in ferromagnetic objects (e.g., steel members and reinforcing steel).

Scanning Unit 


Function: Positions the sensors and 
allows the magnetic field data to be 
collected along the length of the object 
(e.g., reinforcing steel).

Components

Three primary passive magnetic field sensors (i.e., magnetometers) 
for measuring the magnetic field of the object. 
Three ancillary passive magnetic field sensors for measuring the 
surrounding background and ancillary magnetic fields. 
Three accelerometers for detecting irregular changes in (X, Y, Z) velocity. 
Rotary wheel encoder for tracking the scanner movement (i.e., travel distance). 

 

Data Logger 


Function: Provides control, recording, and visual indication of the data collection process.

Main board that synchronizes the hardware and

software of the sensor assembly. 

 

Memory card to store the collected data (magnetic, velocity and location data).
 

Power source (rechargeable battery). 

Multiple Applications​
  • Storage Tank Inspection -iCAMM technology can detect the location and extent of corrosion both externally or from the inside of the tank.​​

  • Surface and Underground Pipeline Inspection - iCAMM detects corrosion, pitting, and cracking in buried pipes from the surface, even through coatings or insulation.​​CUI inspection and corrosion mapping. 

  •  Structural Inspections: This technology can detect material loss within structural members, even when they are coated with passive fire protection.

  • Riser and Subsea inspections. We have a unit which is capable of subsea pipeline inspections, with the use of robotic crawler units.
